WOW

The game of basketball not only builds character . . . it reveals it.

The Wolf of the Week (WOW) is an honor given once a week to a Varsity and JV player in recognition of a certain aspect of the game or life skill.  Check it out.

(11/23)
 Work Ethic

Jenna Hayden (JV) - Jenna has shown a high level of work this past week; her energy and intensity at practice is constantly at a high level.  She does all of this with a smile on her face; making her a great athlete to coach.

Sam Naluai (V) - Sam is one of those players with a constant motor - she only knows one speed and that is "full speed".  Her constant hard work at practice is infectious and other players elevate their intensity to match hers.

 Sportsmanship

Kimmie Koehler (JV) - Kimmie plays with such a love for the game of basketball.  She's supportive of her teammates and respectful of her opponent.

Kenzie Carlson (V) - Kenzie has shown quite a bit of leadership this season.  She's vocal in practice and constantly boosting her teammates.  She's in the game whether she's on the court or on the bench.  She'll be the first one over to a teammate to help pick them off the floor.

 Week
#4
(12/7)
Details

Sarah Coyan (JV) - Sarah has a good basketball mind and recognizes the details that contribute to the success of a play or a defensive set.  She knows what her strengths are and uses them nicely to contribute to the program.  Sarah has helped Coach Keljo a bit as Coach gets used to our system and personnel.

Alyssa Charlston (V) - Alyssa has become the complete player.  She has worked on the little details of her game in order to be able to play at the next level.  Alyssa has always been goal-oriented and has used this attention to detail to help her reach her goals.  This combined with a fantastic work ethic, strong leadership, and an ability to relate to her peers/coaches has made Alyssa a phenomenal player on the court and an even better person off the court.  We're lucky to have her.

Week #5
(12/14)
Effort

Hannah Fisher (JV) - Hannah has shown nice effort in the past couple weeks.  She brought great energy to the Issaquah game when many of her teammates needed the boost.  She consistently plays hard and puts in the effort to improve.  Hannah looks to stay after practice from time to time to get some extra work on her shot.

Annie Borges (V) - Annie has put in the effort to increase her game speed.  She pushes herself defensively to stop the other team's transition and her on-the-ball pressure has really improved.  When asked to increase the speed at which she shoots the ball, Annie immediately went to work on it and her effort has made her one of the team's best shooters."

 Week #6
(12/21)
Leadership

Jenna Hayden (JV) - Jenna has been a fantastic addition to our JV squad.  She has stepped up and taken on the role as point guard whenever I have needed her, and it has really shown me how well she can lead on the court.  She keeps her composure so well and just leads our team in ways that truly make a difference in many games.  She also serves as one of our captains and does a great job helping to keep the energy up in practice.

Seniors (Kimmie Koehler, Alyssa Charslton, Annie Borges, Mercedes Bass and Kenzie Carlson) (V) -  I am so thankful to have this group of seniors in our program.  They are wonderful leaders, both on and off the court.  With so many younger players this year it was crucial to have strong leadership and these girls have stepped up.

 Week #7
(1/4)
Teamwork

Caleigh McCabe (JV) - Caleigh is a player I know I can always look to when I need the team to come together in a game.  She has a great way of making shots happen, whether they are finished by her or she makes an assist.  She also plays great defense, and really looks to help get the ball whenever her teammates might need her.  She brings out great things in the team and really gives her all for everyone involved, which is truly fun to watch.

Mercedes Bass (V) - Mercedes is the best teammate you could ask for.  She is there for her teammates in all situations.  She recognizes the goals of the program and does everything possible to follow through on those goals.  She puts the program ahead of her own needs and has become an extension of the coaching staff this year as a co-captain.

Week #8
(1/11)
Growth

Sarah Coyan (JV) - Sarah has become a player that constantly works hard to get everything she can from her potential.  When given a suggestion by a coach on how to improve she puts in the effort to get better.  She is very supportive of her teammates and gives herself completely to the game.  We're so lucky to have her in this program.

Kenzie Carlson (V) - Kenzie has grown so much as a basketball player, but even more as a person.  She's matured in this program and developed a strong sense of leadership.  I want all players to have this experience when they play 3 years of Eastlake girls' basketball.

 Week #9
(1/18)
Coachability

This is my favorite "Wolf of the Week" to give out!

Taylor Yoneyama (JV) -
Taylor has been working so hard this season to be a better player and get more time on the floor.  She does this not only with hard work, but also by asking the coaches what she can do to improve.  Whenever she is given a suggestion, she looks to incorporate it right away and see what she can do with it.  She has really picked up her game in the last few weeks, contributing a lot of good things for the team.  I can’t wait to see what else she can accomplish this season!

Lauren Files (V) - Lauren breaks into the Varsity "Wolf of the Week" with all of her hard work and coachable spirit.  Lauren is very attentive to coaching comments and implements the suggestions immediately.  Her direct eye contact is a coach's dream.  She has a wonderful attitude and brings a work ethic that very few can replicate.  Lauren is a wonderful addition to our program and I'm excited to get the chance to work with her over the next 3 years.

 Week #10
(1/25)
Mental Toughness

Sarah Coyan (JV) - This season, Sarah has had to take on the challenge of facing the tallest girl on each of our opponents.  While some would crack with this pressure and constant work close to the basket, Sarah has showed what a truly tough person she is.  She went for rebounds as if she were the tallest, played awesome defense, and made those girls try to guard her sweet shot.  She truly exemplifies this award!

Kendra Morrison (V) - Kendra rarely gets rattled. When Kendra faces adverse situations she relies on her poise and is confident in her abilities. Kendra first showed me mental toughness when the girls ran the mile and Kendra went out and destroyed the goal time. Her composure is infectious for the team and she has already shown to be a great leader as a sophomore. I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Kendra for two more years.

Week #11
(2/1)

 Passion

The entire JV team - These girls have truly impressed me this year!  They have played with such passion and poise all season, and I really feel this is reflected in our fantastic record.  I have loved working with these girls, and really look forward to seeing them being even more successful next season!

Abby Carlson (V) - Abby loves to play the game of basketball.
She often plays with a smile on her face. Abby works hard to improve on all levels of her game and it is this passion that will make Abby one of the better point guards in Kingco down the road.

 Week #12
(2/8)
 Defense

Taylor Boe (V) – Taylor has some of the quickest feet I have ever seen!  She can stay right with some of the quickest players in the KingCo JV program, and is a true asset to our team.  She is also very fun to watch!  I have loved having her on the team.

Sam Naluai (V) - Sam is one of the best on-the-ball defenders in Kingco right now. Her blend of speed, athleticism, and basketball IQ have constantly shut down some of the state's best scorers this year. She takes pride on defense and challenges herself to work harder and harder each and every game.
